It's not a old wives tale, this lawn tonic really does work to make your lawn greener, lusher, and healthier. This tried and true method can be made from things you probably already have lying around your house. It is especially useful and effective in arid climates such as Colorado, and even more of a lifesaver when there's a water shortage and you can't simply water your lawn back to life. Simply mix these ingredients together in a 10-gallon hose-end sprayer:
* One can of carbonatd soft drink (any brand, but NOT diet)
* One can of beer (any brand, but NOT light)
* .5 cup liquid dishwashing soap (NOT anti-bacterial soap)
* .5 cup of mouthwash
* .5 cup of household ammonia
Apply by spraying this miracle lawn tonic on your grass after moving the lawn in the evening. If your climate is very dry, you may need to apply this three times a week. Results are fast and impressive according to everyone I know who have tried it. Curious as to how it works?
Apparently, the liquid soap acts as a wetting agent, helping to retain moisture and to penetrate the roots to help the rest of the ingredients absorb. Ammonia is growth promoting, and greatly increases the green color of your lawn. Mouthwash, believe it or not, interferes with the reproductive cycles of pests like slugs and grubs, and keeps them out of your grass. The soda and beer contain tons of sugars to feed your grass like a shot of caffeine to a tired body.
